Turtle Doves are long-distance migratory birds that spend the winter months south of the Sahara desert in West Africa. In spring, they fly northward, crossing the western side of the Mediterranean before travelling up through Portugal, Spain and France and arriving in the UK. Sadly, in the UK, Turtle Dove numbers have declined steeply since 1970. The RSPB and Operation Turtle Dove partners are working with amazing farmers and landowners to help provide suitable feeding and nesting habitats for Turtle Doves so they can thrive once more.
